Awdal Night Cultural Celebartion in 11 Cities in North America
Toronto Canada – April 28, 2009, I just received breaking news from ARDAA President Ibrahim Absiye that he received the ARDAA Charity Registration from the government of Ontario and will soon file with Revenue Canada. ARDAA is a registered Charity in Ontario and soon in Canada for the use of ARDAA Chapters in their respective provinces.
AWDAL NIGHT CULTURAL CELEBRATION IN 11 CITIES IN NORTH AMERICA
ARDAA Chapters are currently inviting their members and the public to the Annual Awdal Night Cultural Celebration which is to be held in 11 North America cities. The cultural celebration is intended to keep our youth informed. The evening of Saturday July 4th will be the biggest feature of “Awdal Night in Ottawa”.
Furthermore, the Toronto ARDAA Chapter Members have met in Downtown Toronto on Sunday April 26, 2009 to discuss the local and national issues that affect the community. The meeting was chaired by Mohamed Denbil, a member of the ARDAA central Board of Directors. Abdisalam Nur has opened the meeting with verses from the Quran and has also introduced Mohamoud Ahmed Gedi, an educator and former Member of Parliament in the last Somali Government (Barre), and who has just returned from Adal Regions, to refresh the audience with homeland news. Mr. Gedi has eloquently articulated the situation on the ground. He concluded his remarks with a number of recommendations for ARDAA, including plans to create ‘skills development programs’ to consider in its agenda and objectives for socio-economic development of the regions.
Then the chair of the meeting called the ARDAA President, Ibrahim Absiye to talk about the ARDAA recent developments and other issues. Ibrahim thanked Mr. Gedi for the valuable information as well as recommendations, and urged the audience that ARDAA needs their support, participation and genuine involvement. Ibrahim recognized and handed out membership certificates to the first four members of ARDAA in the Toronto area. The Chair then moved to an important item of the agenda, which was to elect the Toronto ARDAA local Chapter Officers. The following members were elected by the local membership through a transparent and democratic process:
1. Hussein Ali Mead, Chair
2. Fathia Ahmed, Vice Chair
3. Nadia Sharmarke, Secretary
4. Anisa Elmi, Communications Officer
5. Yussuf Adawe, Communications Officer
6. Hadaya Rirash, Treasurer
7. Elyas Hussein, Kitchener/Waterloo area (Golden Horse Shoe)
The new Chair and Vice Chair thanked the members for their confidence and requested the continuous support of the local chapter members as well as the general public.
God helps those who help themselves
Hassan Abtidon - ARDAA General Secretary
