Glory to Said Meygaag Samatar!
The 7th of May 2008 was another sad day in the life of all Somalilanders because another candle that lit the politics domain in the history of modern Somaliland is put down!
A great leader has fallen, but his ideas and vision will not, as he held to his principles with a courageous and truthful commitment in fighting for the Democracy of Somaliland. Despite all conditions and circumstances, Prof Meygaag was always committed to his homeland and for every valuable step along the way.
Mr. McManus once said if you are big enough for your dream, your dream isn’t big enough for you. Said Meygaag had big dreams for Somaliland especially on its international recognition. He was one of the few men left who was honest & committed for our National flag to fly freely with pride and respect in the blue sky.
Although we all want to have an impact on the world around us these days, Said Meygaag made sure that his slice of the pie was well accomplished. As the founder of Sopri, he stood ready to assist us in an effort to make his dream of “modern Wagooyi” come true. He has gone where no Somalilander has gone before. Said Meygaag had the desire and a million dollar character packed with energy to persuade each of us towards a noble cause for our sweet country.
We pledge to our people in Somaliland and to the symbol of their struggle that we will continue to march and on his path and with his method, with the courage and the will of all Somalilanders to pursue their dream to lithe that light at the end of the tunnel for their international recognition.
My condolences to his wife, dearest kids and to his immediate family and May God rest his soul in peace. After every hardship, there is ease and Said Meygaag Samatar is now resting in a very peaceful place in the hands of Allah but he will be sorely missed here on earth!
