Will Kulmiye Party Usher in a new Political Direction or Remain eclipsed by the Feuding of its Leaders?
Modification of kulmiye party’s “Kitchen Cabinet” of decision-making would confer much-needed adjustment to the extremism and lop-sided policies that has become its proverbial political strategy. Like any other political party in SL, Kulmiye has its own blunders and successes. But what sets Kulmiye party apart from the rest of SL political parties lies in its rank.
Abdirahman Aw Ali, Dr. Ahmed Hussein Isse, Mr. Hindi, Mr. Fagadhe’s, to name a few, pragmatic streak contrasts with the fiery ideological rhetoric of Muse Bixi/Kahin/Iskeerse who have repeatedly voiced SNM resurrection as an option for modern SL despite the reality after post war. All one hears from them is high-sounding rhetoric that gives false hopes to the people as if only ex-snm can develop the country in the exclusion of some SL sectors participation and hard work of every SL citizen. These lack luster’s ignominious rhetoric had caused Kulmiye to loose last presidential election.
After Kulmiye lost last presidential election ipso-facto, the first task for Mr. Mohamoud Silanyo should have been thereafter to castigate, fetter and bury the old guards political view of modern SL as his party’s political face-saving tactics, gives yet another reason to ponder his party success in the up coming election, but he miserably faltered again and lost another political formidable sangfroid by wheedling himself into only his tribal sentiment support for his party thus commiserating with these lack luster’s for their non-inclusive SL political map.
As much as I would like to believe Silanyo die-hard supporters of him as shrewd politician, for me and for many of SL his actions speak louder than his glorification. He is not better than his party old guard and as Kulmiye’s blunders later proved him accomplice in their distasteful actions. He tries always taking high off the ball to satisfy these exasperated foxes – a per se omnipotent of the party.
Whereas other political party ranks that largely participated in SNM struggle along side Kulmiye self-glorifying rank subscribe to a moderate tone with an inclusive policy to resonate with reality of modern SL.
Though encouraging signs, as a result of the new blood, are emanating from Kulmiye political platform, however, the new blood infused into Kulmiye intended to replace the old and polluted is yet to gain leadership of the party. Dr. Hussein Isse, Mr. Hindi, Eng. Abdirahman Aw Ali, Mr. Dhagaweyne, Mr. Fagadhe and like-minded members are the moderate voices within the party hatched with fair play and are above the fray of the old guard and its leader; they are vowed for fairness and geared for a new Kulmiye political view pertinent to the reality of modern SL, continued to desist the tattered rhetoric, stanch the politics of the old guard to divide the nation, and re-shape the party on National and NOT on One Tribal platform - Thus yielding a paradigm of political strategy change.
Kulmiye will then become a born –again opposition political party and victorious through these moderate voices or continued to be doomed, as the old guard is striving to hang on to the political decision making power of the party, of rank riddled with controversial personalities and their vision less leader who is resistant to changes in his political view towards modern SL.
Modification in the kulmiye’s “Kitchen” of decision-making would confer much-needed adjustment to the extremism and lop-sided policy that is become its proverbial political strategy and is accused of.
The fracas that exist between Kulmiye old guard and new blood within the party is reminiscent of the extent of their differences in their political views, which has undoubtedly resulted Kulmiye’s second convention postponed twice and more so in their division on the heels of the illegal demonstration by Silanyo’s wing of the party on the streets of Burco and Hargeisa while the World Bank and Chinese delegations were in SL. The insisting evidence of Kulmiye party sheepish concept of modern SL is what has forced its founders the likes of Mr. Haybe defect to UDUB and Mr. Fagadhe, in his recent media Q&A, expressed his willingness to accept ambassadorial position if nominated by the government.
Unfairness is, and actually was, the “political wisdom” that accrue with kulmiye since its inception and remained largely pronounced in kulmiye’s political fold and as long as its political strategy remains the same, this writer will not hold back his breath if the same pattern known for Kulmiye is seen in the nomination of party leaders for the run up to SL presidential election – It could only be true if the old guard succeeded to remain betrothed with the power of the party’s decision making.
Much as unfairness remain enshrined in Kulmiye’s policy as is now, the party should not forfeit the clan political equanimity in their nomination of the party leaders for the upcoming presidential and vice presidential election to remain viable. But if the sparring match between the high number of the members from the same peers vying in leadership within Kulmiye is for us of any a guide, it vouches the uncertainty and quandaries of other compatriot SL tribes over Kulmiye’s fair play in the nomination of its leaders in the run up to SL presidential election.
One may argue, though, that it is democratic process that is in action in Kulmiye party but counter argument would be,” how much of their rightful share in the clan politics Kulmiye is willing to give to the other compatriot SL tribe candidates in the party for the leadership nomination?” Time will tell. I am less optimistic, though.
Political Scientists agreed that any polity has been sustained as its lifeline from expressing broader view of the factors of its causation; looking after common interest (SL at large),and the policy to embracing ALL of its intended populace. This is the only way Kulmiye can hold court among SL people at large, enjoy stainless political view, and avoid disaster. In that case, Kulmiye new blood should win over the old guard. But if the party fails to brush its old guard, who procrastinate the right and inclusive policy to resonate with modern SL, off aside the party would consequently prescribed its own death.
As unfairness and lop-sided policies find home at Kulmiye party since its inception, I hope our Maxaad Case brothers do possess the political sagacity to figure out their destiny awaiting them at Kulmiye wing and that they do not quit their unity with other Samaroun sub-clans on the whim that Kulmiye will treat them special.
